We carry a variety of rod blanks for the experience rod builder as well as those new to the art of rod building. We carry American Tackle Matrix, Batson Rainshadow RX7 and Forecast RX6, Pacific Bay Rainshadow and Tradition series, as well as out own house graphite. Most series are available in both 2 piece and 4 piece blanks. If you have questions about the right blank for you casting style, You will find this information helpful. For those of you who have neither the time or inclination to make your own blanks we also offer custom building to produce the rod of your dreams.
Bill Carter Bamboo Blanks and Rods
This year we have expanded to begin carrying Bamboo blanks and custom bamboo rods. Our best bamboo blanks are custom made by Bill Carter right here in Mass. These beautiful blanks must be custom ordered, and there is some lead time involved before the blanks are delivered, but they are surely worth the wait.
Bill Carter is one of the best up and coming bamboo rod makers. He is 56, retired and well on his way to a new career. He has been making bamboo rods since 1994, and uses only the finest bamboo "Tonkin" cane for his blanks and rods. His bamboo blanks are solid build hand split and planned and assembled with heat set epoxy resin. The glue in these blanks is not the weak link, Once this glue is set, the bond strength is greater that that of the original bamboo. These blanks can be ordered in any length and any line weight, both in 2 piece and 3 piece models. These blanks are already ferruled unlike many of the custom bamboo blanks available now. The ferrules are hand made of hard drawn nickel silver. The are 18% nickel silver and are made from an alloy know as "752". Ferrules are available "blued" and clear coated or in natural bright finish. Rods or blanks with 2 tips are also available. The Blanks are emersed in a plastic based solution which impregnates the bamboo, and when dried is 100% waterproof. This solution not only strengthens the bamboo to guard against breakage, but is also compatible with vanish. Although these blank require no additional finish, for those who prefer the look of varnish finish, this option remains available. Hollow built blanks are also available for those looking for a lighter bamboo blank or rod. Bill uses the "scalloping" method for his hollow core blanks, making them a really nice light weight blank. If choosing a 3 piece model, however hollowing is not available in the tip section because of the small ID of the blank at that point.
